What affects a DJ’s booking fee
- Profile and demand. Headline DJs with big followings and chart hits charge more than rising names.
- Set length. A one or two hour club set costs less than a full wedding reception or an all night event.
- Date. Fridays, Saturdays and the December festive season book up first.
- Travel. A DJ based in another city may add travel and accommodation.
- Equipment. Confirm whether sound and lighting are included or supplied by the venue.
How booking works
- Find your act. Browse DJs here or on Discover and open a profile to see genres, city, photos and the booking fee.
- Send a request. Tap Book Now and share your date, venue, type of event and budget.
- Agree the details. The artist’s team replies within 24 to 48 hours. Chat, confirm availability and agree the final quote.
- Pay safely. Pay by EFT or another major South African payment method. Your money stays in escrow until you confirm the performance.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to hire a DJ in South Africa?
It depends on the DJ, the length of the set, the date and travel. Every DJ on GigFinder shows a booking fee on their profile, so you can compare before you send a request, then agree the final quote with their team.
How far in advance should I book a DJ?
For weddings and December dates, book as early as you can, ideally a few months ahead. For other events a few weeks is often enough, but popular DJs fill their weekends early.
Does the DJ bring their own equipment?
Some DJs travel with a full sound setup and others play on the venue’s system. Ask in your booking request and confirm it in the chat before you pay.
How do payments work?
You pay the full booking fee upfront through GigFinder’s secure checkout, by EFT or another major South African payment method. The money is held in escrow until you confirm the performance by sharing a 4 digit code with the artist’s label, and only then is it released.
