What a good MC does
- Plans the running order with you and keeps every speech and item on time.
- Introduces speakers, performers and the bridal party with the right names and pronunciations.
- Switches languages to suit your guests.
- Works with the DJ on cues for entrances, the first dance and other key moments.
- Handles surprises calmly when the programme changes.
What affects an MC’s fee
- Profile. Celebrities and TV or radio personalities charge more than professional event MCs.
- Event length. A full day conference or a wedding with rehearsal costs more than a short function.
- Travel. An MC from another city may add travel and accommodation.
How booking works
- Find your act. Browse MCs and hosts here or on Discover and open a profile to see genres, city, photos and the booking fee.
- Send a request. Tap Book Now and share your date, venue, type of event and budget.
- Agree the details. The artist’s team replies within 24 to 48 hours. Chat, confirm availability and agree the final quote.
- Pay safely. Pay by EFT or another major South African payment method. Your money stays in escrow until you confirm the performance.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to hire an MC in South Africa?
Each MC sets their own fee, shown on their GigFinder profile. The final quote depends on the event length, rehearsals and travel.
Can the MC host in more than one language?
Many South African MCs host in two or more languages. Mention the languages your guests speak in your booking request.
What should I send the MC before the event?
The programme, the names of speakers and key guests with pronunciations, the venue address and contact person, and any special announcements.
How do payments work?
You pay the full booking fee upfront through GigFinder’s secure checkout, by EFT or another major South African payment method. The money is held in escrow until you confirm the performance by sharing a 4 digit code with the artist’s label, and only then is it released.
